Wassily Kandinsky Biographical Information:Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) was born in Moscow, where he studied law and economics. For some years after he graduated, he lectured on these subjects, but in 1996 he decided to pursue a career in art, prompted by an exhibition of French impressionist paintings in Moscow. He moved to Munich to study at the Kunstakademie. Kandisnky soon became successful and formed the group ‘Der Blaue Reiter’ with other leading European painters. His initial success was curtailed by the outbreak of World War II. Kandinsky spend the years from 1914 to 1921 in Russia, where he held a position in the People’s Commissariat of Education. Subsequently he returned to Germany and teach and work at the Bauhaus until the Nazis took power and declared al modern art ‘degenerate.’ Kandinsky moved to Neuilly, France, where he died in 1944. |
